My daughter has many super powers including an awesome vocabulary and the ability to make smoke come out of my ears. But physical activity is not one of them. She does not enjoy it and she is not very good at it. By that I mean her performance would probably be below average for kids her age.

My toddler was quite well behaved. As far as toddlers go that is.Of course she was messy and strong willed and the terrible twos were indeed quite terrible and spilled generously over in to terrible threes. But she wasn't naughty per say. She did not make trouble to amuse herself and then laugh impishly at my frustration. She was often defiant with a purpose and sometimes sulky or clumsy but not mischievous.

Keeping energetic toddlers stimulated and entertained through the vacations is no mean task. I consider myself an enthusiastic mom. But finger painting, puzzles, puppet shows, story time and cooking with mommy, simply, don't fill up the day. Besides even awesome moms need some me time. So what do we do? This Diwali vacation I rediscovered Busy Beavers and they came to my rescue.

About half a year ago, I wanted to introduce my daughter to gardening. We did a wonderful seed germination project with mustard and fenugreek seeds. My daughter observed the seeds sprout tiny shoots, and then little tiny green leaves popped up and then a tiny little plant of sorts sprung up.

Allow my kids to talk back? Question my authority? Pass witty or snide comments about my choices? Should I allow that? I think I should. Yes, I know. You just shook your head and thought, "Poor woman. She is losing it." So let me explain myself and prove that my sanity is indeed intact. I am not an excessively permissive parent. I don't believe one needs to tread on eggshells around their kids.

When we brought our infant home from the hospital there were some immediate things to figure out. To start with some one would have to bathe her the very next day. I had two options. One was to hire someone to do it, or find the guts to do it myself. I did not find either option very appealing.

That depends on who you talk to. Electronic gadgets seem to be a very touchy subject that elicit either awe or disdain. Some believe using tablets, video games and smart phones turn children in to addicted zombies while some others believe that merely using these devices makes your child a wiz kid.

My husband and I like to watch a TV show at dinnertime. Till quite recently, our daughter was too young to care about, or understand what we were watching. She would just play with her toys and talk to her grandma on the phone or do coloring. But off late I have noticed, her paying some attention, to TV shows we watch.

Since our daughter was 6 months old, the last hour before bed has always been daddy daughter time. That is when I get chores done or read or write a blog post. The days I am reading or writing a blog post, I get to hear snippets of father daughter conversations that are often quite amusing.

Baby products! There are a lot of them out there. As a new mother it is difficult to decide which ones to buy. What will be useful and for how long? What are the pros and cons of the different varieties?

The Nehru Science Centre is a great place to take your kids to, for a half or full day family outing. Even the really little ones can enjoy watching the various exhibits at work. What better way to inspire a love for science at an early age?

Your baby turning a year old is a very special milestone. But a one year old is not materialistic. The infant wont ask for anything. I suppose this stage will not last long. In my experience a 2 year old is not materialistic either but that may not be so general.
